greek argosy illustrated
timeline
This graphic
file may take several moments to load.
This is an Internet version
of the handy pocket-size timeline our travelers carry with them
to avoid becoming lost in time. Depicted on the timeline are
major eras of ancient Greek history along with artifacts and
historical sites we will encounter during our travels.
While this timeline might
appear complicated at first glance, reading it is really quite
simple:
-Go to the center of the pictures,
where the actual timeline is located.
-Read the timeline from left to right, beginning at 3,000 BC
with the Minoan Civilization of Crete and its sister culture
at Akrotiri on the island of Santorini.
-Akrotiri is colored orange on the timeline, and its artifacts
are in the orange area. Minoan Civilization is purple on the
timeline, and its artifacts are in the purple area. This is where
you will also find a brief description of Minoan Civilization.
(Art figures from the Cyclades Islands date from even earlier.)
-Proceed toward the right along the timeline to see the next
era of Greek history, the Mycenean Age, colored in green. Information
and artifacts relating to the next three ages of Greek history
are located above the timeline.
For more information about these
eras of Greek history, see the Annotated/Illustrated
Itinerary and the Brief
History of Ancient Greece.
